Foundation course for international students

Pre-University education of the Russian language and general disciplines for international students occupies an important place among the programs implemented at the Preparatory and implies focus on one of the following areas of study (pre-university education): 

  • Humanities; 
  • Economy;
  • Natural Sciences;
  • Engineering and Technology;
  • Medicine and Biology.

 

Foundation course is aimed at preparing foreign students for enrolment in Russian universities for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs.

It starts on September 5. 

The duration is one academic year (2 semesters). 

The maximum number of students in a group:

Russian language classes – 15. 

General disciplines – 30. 

Upon completion of the training all students take Russian language and general  disciplines exams.  Those who pass all exams successfully are awarded the SFedU Certificate of Course Completion. 

The cost of the Foundation course is 135 000 rub (it doesn’t cover travel, medical insurance, boarding and lodging expenses).

Russian as a Foreign Language Testing Center

Russian as a Foreign Language Testing Center was created in 1999 and is one of the first educational organizations in our country conducting testing of Russian as a foreign language.

Managing director of the Center is Rezhuk Zinaida Vladimirovna.

 

Three main arears of focus:

1. Testing of Russian as a Foreign Language in order to acquire citizenship of the Russian Federation - 6500 roubles.

2. Testing of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL levels А2–С1)

The TORFL test consists of 5 levels:

Basic Level (TBL / A2)  - 6000 roubles;

Successful performance at the Test at Basic Level represents a standard competence in Russian which demonstrates a candidate can satisfy their basic communicative needs in a limited number of situations in everyday and cultural spheres. This level stands for the minimum level required to obtain Russian citizenship. At the same time this level is not sufficient for studying in the Russian educational institutions, except for preparatory faculties (programs or courses) for foreigners.

- The First Certification Level (TORFL-I / B1) - 6000 roubles;

Successful performance at the First Level Certificate indicates an intermediate level of language competence, which demonstrates a candidate can satisfy their main communicative needs in everyday, cultural, educational and professional spheres in line with the State Standard of Competence in Russian as a Foreign Language. In addition, the First Level Certificate allows its holder to apply to a Russian university.

The Second Level Certificate (TORFL-II / B2)  - 6300 roubles;

Successful performance at the Second Level Certificate indicates a high level of competence in Russian which demonstrates a candidate can satisfy their communicative needs in a wide range of situations in cultural, educational and professional spheres. It allows its holder to receive bachelor's, master's and PhD degrees from Russian universities, excluding certain philology-related subjects. This level also allows one to carry out professional activities in the Russian language in the related subject areas: humanitarian sciences (except for philology), engineering, natural sciences, etc.

The Third Level Certificate (TORFL-III / C1)   - 6500 roubles;

Successful performance at the Third Level Certificate indicates that the candidate has a high level of language command in all communicative contexts, which allows them to conduct professional activity in Russian in areas such as Linguistics, Translation, Editing, Journalism, International Relations and Management.

The Fourth Level Certificate (TORFL-IV / C2)  - 6500 roubles.

Successful performance at the Fourth Level Certificate indicates Proficiency in Russian and the candidate's language competence close to a native Russian-speaker. It also enables its holder to receive a Master of Arts degree in philology, undertake all forms of work in Russian philology.

 Testing procedure:

Step 1. Apply the documents:

  • 1) original document of identification (residence permit or passport and its translation, refugee identity card);
  • 2) copy of migration card for those who don't have residence permit.

Step 2. Before testing:

  • 1) fill up a form;
  • 2) sign an agreement on testing.

Step 3. Attend briefing regarding:

  • 1) the algorithm for filling the matrices;
  • 2) the time of each subtest;
  • 3) general rules.

Step 4. Attend a free group tutorial instruction, study up on public testing examples.

Step 5. Pay the bill.

Step 6. Take the test .

Step 7. Get a certificate (in two weeks).

How to apply at the Department of the Russian language and General Disciplines?

Study visa is an obligatory requirement for the education at the Department of the Russian language and General Disciplines. To get study visa you should have an invitation from the university and provide it both with the requite documents to the Russian embassy or consulate, located in your country.

  1. Passport and the notarized translation into Russian;
  2. An education document you might have (school graduation certificate, diplomas, etc. notarized translation into Russian);
  3. The medical report on the absence of contraindications for training (notarized translation into Russian);
  4. The medical certificate on the absence of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and the AIDS disease, issued by the official health authority of the country of residence of the candidate (and notarized translation into Russian);
  5. A Filled application form.

 

How to issue a contract?

To issue a contract all international students should submit to the dean’s office of the Department of the Russian language and General Disciplines the following documents:

  • 2 copies of the passport;
  • 2 copies of the visa;
  • 2 copies of the migration card;
  • Application for FC or for RLC;
  • 2 photos sized 3x4.

 

Accommodation at the student campus of SFedU

Southern Federal University provides its students accommodation in students’ residence hall.

To register in the students’ residence hall on the territory of the Russian Federation you should submit to University’s Migration services the following documents.

  • 4 copies of your passport (all pages except blank ones);
  • 4 copies of the migration card;
  • 4 photos sized 3x4.

 

Medical insurance

All international students should obtain medical insurance after arrival in the Russian Federation. The medical insurance updated annually. You can issue a medical insurance in the dean’s office of the Department, room 201.

 

Is it possible to receive an invitation for the education in Russia in the situation COVID-19?

According to the order of the Ministry of internal Affairs of the Russian Federation (MIA of Russia) dated March 16th, 2020 the citizens of some countries are able to receive an invitation for the education in the University in the Russian Federation. Arrival procedure into the Russian Federation

All international students are required to inform about arrival the staff of the dean’s office not later than 7 days before entry into Russia. It is obligatory to inform about the exact date of arrival in Moscow and to give the name of the airport, as well as to inform about the exact date and time of arrival in Rostov-on-Don. An international student will not be allowed to enter the territory of the Russian Federation at a border control, if an international student does not inform the university staff about his/her arrival in advance.

All international students have to obtain a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for COVID-19 not earlier than 3 days before arrival into the Russian Federation.

During first 72 hours after arrival into the Russian Federation all international students have to obtain a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for COVID-19 for the second time.

All international students are allowed to study if they have two negative results of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests for COVID-19.
